Customer Review: lovin this tv
I love my mitsubishi tv i am not a big sport fan but i do like movies i am not impressed with blue ray dvds . But i do watch dvd movies all i can say is they look great i have directtv with hd channels i set my hd box to 1080p and my channels are crystal clear. my husband let me pick the tv and i decided not to waste another $1000 for lcd and all that stuff i guess i am a litlle old fashion. when we didn't know about lcd and plasma then the dlp was all the rage . well i can see the picture clear and the color is great plus for the length of time these tvs last why waste more money for the lcd or plasma. this is my second big screen tv the last one only lasted for 5 years we are currently looking for a part to have it repaired so far the cheapest part is $700 we are on our fourth month waiting for the part. my old tv 32 in which is 12yrs old has never need a part and did i mention it is 12yrs old the color is great everyone who sees it asks us how much we paid for it $350.00 12yrs ago. my kids play xbox 360 and wii systems on it. my last big screen two bulbs and a fan now some sort of board . it cost over $2000 originally .
Customer Review: Very Good HDTV
We decided to go HD after a long time of waiting. We, for a very long time, used a Toshiba Rear-projection TV at 50" in our living room. We decided that we would need a TV large enough to take the place of that TV and to make it not look so small. DLP is the right choice for this since you can get a much larger screen size at a lower cost than LCD or Plasma. Since we had good luck with our other rear-projection, we figured that we would have good luck with this TV. Having it for a month now, there have been no issues and our view experience is great. The matted screen makes glares much less harsh (our old TV had a glossy screen). The wight of this TV is extremely light for its size, our friend has a 42" LCD which is much heavier than this. As long as you're planning to put the TV on a stand, the lack of it being a flat panel shouldn't be a big deal. 1080p content through our Xbox 360 is very detailed and sharp and the TV never lags behind nor have I seen any "rainbow effect" from this TV during normal viewing. The only con with this TV is the build in speakers to the TV are very tinny and all around subpar. Although if you use this TV hooked up to an AV receiver you will have no issues, you buy a TV for the picture, not the sound. All around I am very happy we bought this TV. I've had nothing but good luck with Mitsubishi, in fact, we still own an old Mitsubishi console color TV from the early 80s that works perfectly. You should have no regrets in buying this DLP HDTV.

Amazon.com has once again outdone itself by producing the Kindle 2, currently the best selling e-book reader in the market. Here is a list of new features that are found on the new Kindle 2.

1. Its slimmer. The new Kindle 2 is much slimmer than its predecessor (the first Kindle). At just 0.36" thick it is even slimmer than the iPhone. This new svelte design feels better on your hands and its back is made of a special material that provides better grip.

2. New design. This new model has a more balanced design. All the edges and corners are gently curved, giving it a very contemporary look. Compared to the first Kindle, this new model sports a more modern and minimalist design. The new Kindle 2 also comes with stereo speakers.

3. 5-way controller. The older model has a small scroll wheel to view large pages or documents. In the Kindle 2, a new 5-way controller has been incorporated to not only help you scroll pages, but also have better accuracy in navigating within the screen.

4. Smaller keyboard and buttons. Every single button on the Kindle 2 has been downsized, which is a big improvement. The reduced keyboard size means that you can comfortably hold the reader without accidentally pressing the buttons. The placement and design of the page turn buttons have also improved.

5. Improved page turn buttons. In the older model, the page turn buttons are huge 3-inch buttons located on the edges (on both sides) of the reader. The size of the buttons and placement has caused me to make hundreds and hundreds of inadvertent page turns in the past year. In the Kindle 2, the size of the page turn buttons have been reduced and is now conveniently placed on the center of the side edges. The page will only turn if you press down the button until you hear a tactile 'click'. This is one of my favorite changes in the Kindle 2 as it greatly reduces accidental page turns.

6. Page turn speed. In the first Kindle model, page turn can sometimes be sluggish, especially when you have bought and stored many books in the reader. The page turns on the Kindle 2 is noticeably faster. Amazon claims that the page-turn speed on the new model has increased by 25%.

7. Battery life. The battery life of the Kindle 2 is almost two times longer than its predecessor. With the wireless function on, the reader can last up to 4 days on a single charge. Without the wireless function, it can last up to 14 days.

8. Wireless connectivity. On top of the Whispernet connection, the new Kindle 2 also supports 3G connections (thanks to Sprint). The 3G connectivity greatly increases the speed of downloads.

9. Dictionary. In this new e-book reader, you can find out the meaning of a word by just pointing at it. When you move the cursor over a particular word, the meaning will automatically pop up.

Philips SCA050 Indoor Amplified UHF/VHF/FM/HDTV Antenna

Whether in homes, factories, offices, airports, or on the street, it's hard to imagine a place where Philips is absent. What Philips wants is to make your life and work easier - and more fun! And Philips continuously explores new ways to improve products and to offer innovative products to its consumers. Philips. "Let's Make Things Better".
Customer Review: not happy
I'M not at all happy with my Philips sca050 antenna. The antenna does not come with the 12v DC power cord. Please be advised? Do not puchase unless you are abie to get the right type of cord. The cord you will need is a 12vDC 100ma. I do hope this helps. Thanks; J.C.
Customer Review: Worthless product
I agree with the reviewer from Houston. My old rabbit ears work better and I don't have to waste electricity by plugging it in. Rabbit ears pick up 13 channels. The Philips SCA050 Indoor Amplified UHF/VHF/FM/HDTV Antenna picks up three channels but fuzzier and they were all VHF. There is no info on the Philips website. After a few phone calls I finally got a customer service agent who treated me like an idiot and had no answers. Save yourself some money and go to the closet and pull out a wire hanger.

Panasonic wireless home theaters are among the best home theater systems in the industry, combining the best aspects of funtionality, affordability and aesthetic value.

One of the main points of having a Panasonic wireless home theater is the wireless aspect. For everyone out there who enjoys having high quality surround sound in their homes when they watch their favorite movies or listen to music, the challenge of having to string foot upon foot of speaker wire and then attempt to attach it to molding or hide it behind furniture has been the annoying downside to their home theater system.

With the advent of affordable wireless audio technology on the market, this daunting task has become a thing of the past. Now, Panasonic wireless home theaters give one the ability to position the constellation of large and small speakers and sub woofers around the living room and around the house, even, and not have to contend with hiding and placing miles of speaker wire.

Many Panasonic wireless home theaters have slim tall main speakers that have a sleek, sophisticated, modern look to them. In addition to the overall appearance of these high quality speakers, they are smaller than their heavy bulky ancestors of the past, so they take up less room and are much more adaptable to any living room arrangement. In addition to the versatile main speaker towers, the wireless technology allows one to fine tune the surround sound experience by placing small, decorative and freestanding small speakers anywhere within range of the wireless receiver. Now, one can place the small speakers on end tables where they take up a very small amount of space, and deliver all the subtle tones and sounds from different areas of the room.

Many Panasonic wireless home theaters now come standard with and iPod dock. This important feature allows one's home theater system to continue to keep pace with the demands of modern functionality by allowing users to simply plug in their portable iPod and immediately listen to their library of favorite tunes. Some systems have even made the iPod dock available on one of the tall slim speaker towers, thereby providing quick and easy access.

For the overall movie and music experience, the wireless home theater is a must for bringing theater quality sound and detail into the living room. The look and feel of the system is sleek and modern and the features allow one to customize their living room without having to string foot upon foot of seaker wire. Being able to place the various smaller speakers absolutely anywhere enhances the overall sound effect quality and turns living rooms into surround sound theaters, while at the same time avoiding the bulky space wasting realities of older, traditional speakers and woofers.

Customer Review: Died after 10 months
Great TV when it works. Mine died on me after 10 months, well within the warranty period, but Envision expects me to pay for packaging and shipping to Texas, which will run me around $200 !!!! They only have 3 service centers in the States.
Customer Review: Great Display; NO EPG!
Wonderful picture quality and no problems with the unit since purchase (11/15/08). So lifelike that it almost appears 3-D. This is my first LCD digital TV purchase and I have it hooked up to an over the air digital TV signal. Stunning clarity. You do need to tweak the display controls somewhat to get the best picture quality; the default settings will not give you the best display. I have not played a DVD or any other source with this set but I would expect the quality to be very high also. At the time of my purchase (11/15/08 for $450) this was the lowest priced 32" LCD that I could find. The major drawback is the lack of an EPG (electronic program guide). If you are only going to use this set for gaming, watching movies or have cable or satellite; then the lack of an EPG will not be a major consideration. Without an EPG, you are not able to preview the upcoming programming for digital TV stations. With some digital converter boxes, you are able to view programming hours in advance. Also, the digital tuner in the set does not pull in stations as well as digital converter boxes that I do have. Using the same source in approximately the same location, the signal for this unit is not as good; although more than adequate for good reception. I would have given this unit 5 stars if there was an EPG included and the reception was better. All in all, a great 32" LCD TV at a great price in spite of it's limitations.

Having been around since 1919, RCA has been one of the leaders in the entertainment and electronic industry. Making everything from professional video cameras used for televised sporting events to personal portable CD players to brand new technology such as the USB Turntable which allows you to play old vinyl records and convert the audio from them into mp3 files on your computer's hard drive, RCA deals with just about every form of electronic devise and keeps one step ahead on the latest technologies available. One of their more popular items is the various forms of RCA home theater systems.

With an RCA home theater system, you have a wide range of choices. Television monitors range in size from 22 inches to over 50 inches. Surround sound comes in either 5.1 surround sound or 6.1 surround sound. Along with a great range of options, when you get an RCA system you're getting some of the most top notch, top of the line, most up to date technology around. You can pick from various DVD players, radios, speaker wattage... it's a veritable mix and match of what you can chose to have in your living room, all while having the satisfaction that you're buying the best on the market at a great price.

An RCA home theater system is also energy efficient, making it better for the environment than ever before. In 2008, all models were compliant with Energy Star regulators, and were even equipped with a Dynamic Room Light Sensor which is able to detect any ambient light in the room (such as sunlight coming in through a window or a lamp in the room being on) and automatically adjust the brightness of the screen accordingly, using less power to showcase your favorite TV show or DVD. These allow you to be entertained with TV (America's number 1 pastime) as you have before, but by using less energy you're saving the environment as well as lowering your electric bills (which helps save your bank account!).

RCA home theater systems have some of the most affordable prices around while having more features than the competition including richer video quality on higher resolution 1080p HDTV systems, clearer more crisp audio with their high quality 5.1 or 6.1 surround sound speakers, and universal remotes to help you operate every function of your home entertainment center with a single device. It's no wonder RCA is one of the top brands in the electronics world today.

Consumers are going crazy over the HD plasma TV models on the market but should you buy one too? They are well known of the amazing picture quality offered as well at size of the extra large screen that can be up to 70". A HD plasma TV can produce up to 8.6 billion colors and each of them with amazing precision. The viewing angle is 16 units wide and 9 unit high so you will be watching all your television programs and movies in luxury.

HD plasma TV models are also very durable. They have a long life with an estimated 60,000 hours of viewing. While they are expensive they may be well worth it if you watch plenty of TV and movies. They also cost less than LCD flat panel TV's when you compare the same size of screen. However it is important to know that this TV uses more electricity than a traditional TV set. On average you are looking at 700 watts of power to operate it.

A HD plasma TV is able to offer you these amazing features because of the thousands of display cells featured. They are used to link the x and y axis panels together. The cells have slots with neon and xenon gases in them. A HD plasma TV offers three primary colors - red, green, and blue that are made from the gases. The set up does not contain mercury so you don't have to worry about the effects from it.

You do have to be careful when moving this TV because the components are quite fragile. If you aren't careful with it the TV can suffer from a burn in effect that means the frame of a picture will linger on the screen longer than it should. If you decide that buying a HD plasma TV is right for you then make sure you get one that comes with a long term warranty just in case you experience any problems. It is also a good idea to conduct some research online so you get the right model of HD plasma TV for your money.

Customer Review: Blurry
My doctor's office has one of these. There are no significant viewing angle problems. However, the picture is blurry. It is obviously NOT just the source that is to blame, as there is another TV in the same office, connected to the same source, and its picture is much better. Bring back the picture tube (CRT). Even the best LCDs still do not look as good as a quality picture tube, and the average LCD looks horrible. Most LCD screens I have seen really deserve 0 stars. (This unit at least deserves the 1 star.) Its amazing to see all the uninformed masses buy these LCDs just so they can hang it on the wall. That is the worst and dumbest reason to buy one, since the pic is inferior to a good picture tube.
Customer Review: Excellent entry level HDTV
Read reviews before purchase and was not disappointed, clear and good colors easy setup and sleek design would recommend this for the price. In comparison with my Samsung 42" this one is faster surfing trough the channels.

Despite what the salesman at your local A/V shop tells you, sound proofing and sound treatment are not interchangeable terms in acoustics. Sound proofing is the process of creating a space that prevents any form of sound from escaping it, while sound treatment is the manipulation of a room's response to particular frequencies to create a balanced sound within the room. Although there are similar materials for both procedures, their expected outcomes and processes are nonetheless very different.

Sound proofing a room

If you're creating a space that will be used to contain a huge amount of sound and noise (like a death metal band's rehearsal space), the best way to do this would be to build a room within a room. The room itself should have a thick cement floor, walls and ceiling. This forms an outer shell which is the space's last line of sound proofing, and must be dense enough to absorb even the loudest low frequency sounds.

Within it, another room must be made whose walls, ceiling and floor (ideally) may be made of cement as well to ensure maximum density. Drywalls filled with sheetrock or fiberglass can also be used. This inner room must be smaller than the outer room and is generally placed in the middle of it, allowing for a space between them where the resultant escaping sound is trapped even more. This ensures that only a minimum of sound meets the walls of the outer room, thus increasing the chances of a 100% sound proofed room.

Treating a room

Treating a room requires less material than sound proofing it, but requires more patience and knowledge as there will be frequent listening tests and adjustments to be made in order to create a tailor-fit sound. There are three ways to treat a room, either by sound absorption, reflection or diffusion.

Sound absorption is important in an acoustically treated room/studio because it eliminates standing waves and early reflections from surfaces. Taming these undesirable sounds also creates a clearer and more precise stereo image, as in the case of a mix engineer's suite. Sound absorption is achieved through the placement of porous material such as cloth and fiberglass in strategic areas. These act as traps that absorb high and mid frequencies, and are generally placed around the room and on the ceiling. To trap low frequencies, denser absorbers (called bass traps) are placed in locations that form corners, such as between walls and in spaces where the room's wall's meet the ceiling.

Diffusion serves to scatter sound hitting its surface in random directions. Though less ubiquitous than absorbers and reflectors, diffusers serve an important purpose of preventing redundant travel of sound waves. Diffusers are generally crafted with a mathematical model as a guide to ensure the randomness of its surface. Once sound arrives on the face of the diffuser, it is distributed in an arbitrary manner.

The next time you decide to create a quality listening space, define first whether or not you would like to sound proof it, treat it, or even both. Knowing what you would want to do ahead will save you energy and money by letting you focus on what would be the priorities for your acoustic project.

Toshiba 19LV506 19-Inch 720p LCD HDTV with Built-in DVD Player (White)

The elegant design of the 19LV506 is the perfect complement to your kitchen decor, and you won't have to compromise shelf or counter space for style and performance. Multi digital tuning allows for tuning of standard cable channels as well as off-air digital broadcasts, in addition to digital "cable-in-the-clear" broadcasts. Using PC input, the 19LV506 can be used in conjunction with a computer, and the A/V input, HDMI and component input can be used for gaming and receiving HD broadcasts. The built-in DVD player makes this LCD HDTV a convenient and feature-rich viewing solution.
Customer Review: Great picture and sound issues are resolvable
I've had the Toshiba LV506 for about two months now. I bought it for my 18' Eco trailer and mounted it with an articulating arm which places it near the end of the bed. Some of the reviewers felt the sound wasn't up to par so I looked at alternatives. I'm used to a quality home theater with excellent surround sound in my living room but didn't want to spend a lot of money for the trailer install. Instead, I bought a two speaker computer system with subwoofer from Creative Labs and custom fitted this around and below the TV. This truly makes up for any short coming of the tv speakers and the wiring is very simple and straight forward. The only thing I need worry about now is keeping the volume low at night when staying in campgrounds and RV parks because the subwoofer does rock nicely. I purchased the Creative Labs computer system for under $30 with free shipping.
Customer Review: Best Buy!
In my opinion this tv is the best deal going for a 19 inch unit. Picture is very good and the DVD works great. Sound is a little tinny as it is with any tv this size. It takes large speakers for great sound and you cant fit them in a tv this size. Dont get me wrong. Sound is very acceptable within it's size limitations. The soft white color is a nice change from everything out there being black plastic. Remote is ergonomically correct. As always, first class service from Amazon. If you need a tv this size it is the way to go.

Customer Review: Simply put - buy it
I am somewhat of an audio/videophile and typically purchase high end components and accessories. For the price of these cables, I thought why not try them. Let me tell you, I cannot discern the difference in video or sound quality between these cables and cables 10 times the price. Buy it, you won't be disappointed.

You may laugh and say that TV antennas are a leftover from a forgotten time. With your 500 channel satellite package or your 14 premium cable movie channels, you'd be right to scoff. Until you get your bill. Many viewers are embracing digital TV antennas to get the same audio quality and stellar that you pay big bucks for; all for free. There are several advantages to OTA (over-the air) reception and I'll discuss those along with how to choose the best antenna for HDTV in your area.

Broadcast HDTV channels are the best of the best
The digital television transition is bringing with it solutions to the 2 most annoying troubles of analog broadcasting; snow and picture ghosting. Digital TV channels allow for a crisp, ghost-free picture and clear sound. All local content is not yet broadcast in HDTV, so it's typical for stations to broadcast their digital TV channels in standard definition during the day and switch to a full widescreen HDTV broadcast during the "prime time" hours.

If you've never experienced what a digital TV antenna can do for you, here are a few reasons to consider one:

  • Over-the-air (OTA) digital TV channels are free. With the exception of the costs you incur for your antenna, receiving digital stations with an HDTV antenna is free.
  • You get access to all your local channels. Many satellite and cable companies will not carry all of the local stations in your area. On many systems, you have access to some of your local stations in exchange for an extra monthly fee.
  • Free access to out of town stations. It's possible that with the right equipment you can receive out of town stations and often be able to catch sporting events that are "blacked out" in your area.
  • Local digital TV channels are everywhere. Although the largest concentration of digital TV stations are in metropolitan areas, 90% of US viewers can easily get 6 or more digital TV channels.
  • OTA reception has the best picture quality. While your satellite or cable company may offer 500 channels, this comes with a price. They use data compression techniques that lower the audio and image quality of your broadcast often adding distortion or artifacts.

Of course in addition to your HDTV antenna, you will also need some sort of HDTV tuner to receive these digital TV channels, more often than not on newer TVs this ability is already built in. If you have an "integrated" HDTV, or it mentions an ATSC tuner, you are ready to rock. Also, if you currently subscribe to an HDTV package from DISH or DIRECTV, your receiver almost certainly includes an over-the-air HDTV tuner.

Finding your OTA digital TV channels
One of the best ways to find specific digital TV information for your address is the AntennaWeb.org website. You simply put in your address and it will return a list of the digital stations in your area. It allows you to look at both analog and digital TV stations in your area, or you can filter it to show digital broadcasts only. Since many stations broadcast from the same area, they will be clustered together on your results page. Now that you know what digital TV channels are available in your area, it's time to pick your antenna.
